One UK study estimates that if you work with computers, you are more likely to get Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) at some point in your career, than to be involved in a car accident.
RSI is a general term to describe a range of medical conditions caused by the repetitive action/overuse of part of the upper or lower limbs of the body, as well as the spine. In regard to typing, it can affect forearms, elbows, wrists, hands, neck and shoulders. It can be caused by typing for long periods without rest, poor posture or if a workstation is badly set up.
The condition is debilitating and cases are on an increase. It is said to affect one in 50 workers, particularly those using computers for prolonged periods of time. These numbers can be much higher in workplaces with bad ergonomics and other risk factors. However, the good news is that RSI is easy to prevent and can usually be treated, particularly if caught in the early stages.
Basic preventative measures:
Work desk/surface: the desk must be large enough to allow flexible arrangement of screen, keyboard, documents and related equipment.
Work chair: this must be stable and must allow freedom of movement. The seat height and the angle of the back must be adjustable.
Footrests and wrist rests: these should be available to users if required. If not used, wrists should be held up, not leaning on the desk surface.
Keyboard skills training: keyboard users should be trained to use all ten fingers.
Breaks: display screen work should be regularly interrupted, with an RSI guard running in the background.
Display screens: these should be positioned at eye-level and have a stable image with adjustable contrast and brightness, the ability to tilt, swivel and should be free of reflective glare.
Keyboards: these should be tilt-able and separate from the screen. They should have sufficient space in front to provide support for user's hands and arms. The surface of keyboard must be non-reflective, keys well spaced out and key symbols must be clear.
To ensure the health and safety of all keyboard users, it is essential that the meaning, causes, risks and preventative measures associated with RSI are understood.
The reason KAZ is the preferred choice of RSI guard is because it is adaptive and responsive to the typist.
All information and data gathered is kept strictly private and confidential to the computer to which it is installed and is purely intended for the user's attention. It will not be transmitted, shared or divulged to any third party.
An essential element in helping prevent RSI is the ability for individuals to touch type correctly. KAZ’s Accelerated Learning typing software has been proven to reduce the time taken to learn to touch type, teaching the A-Z keys in just 90 minutes.
KAZ Typing Tutor and Guardian Angel are available for both PC or Mac.
Whilst KAZ Guardian Angel is a powerful tool designed to help protect you against RSI, we cannot guarantee you will not suffer any of the above problems. We recommend you use KAZ Guardian Angel as part of a common sense approach in taking sensible precautions whilst typing on a daily basis.
Mobile friendly. All our products comprise both UK and North American options.

If you click on the ‘How am I doing?’ section you will see a ‘Counting of the Keystrokes’ field. The figure displayed will increase as you use your computer.
KAZ Guardian Angel starts working the minute it is installed and activated. Once the user clicks on the ‘Personal Settings’ and confirms ‘OK’, the program will start to work. You can then close the screen and the app will be minimised to your task bar.
The typing speed displayed is a ‘Live’ typing speed, therefore the w.p.m. count will vary as to your typing performance during the interval as indicated in the permitted range. This display figure will continually change.
Yes, the program does count mouse clicks but does not register them in the ‘How am I doing?’ section - ‘Counting of the Keystrokes’ display.
The clock is on a ‘rolling’ 3-5 minute counter. If you haven’t been typing, you may have been using the mouse. However, if you do not use your computer or mouse at all KAZ Guardian Angel will recognise this and not initiate breaks.
This is so the program can be used in working environments where there is a need for quiet.
